SALIENT FEATURES OF RISAT-2BR1 Lift-off weight RISAT-2BR1 is a radar imaging earth observation satellite. RISAT-2B, the satellite due to be launched before dawn on May 22 from Sriharikota, will mark the resumption of a vital ring of Indian all-seeing radar imaging satellites after seven years. RISAT is the first indigenous satellite imaging mission of ISRO (Indian Space Research Organization) using an active radar sensor system, namely a C-band SAR (Synthetic Aperture Radar) imager, an important microwave complement to its optical IRS (Indian Remote Sensing Satellite) series observation missions.
RISAT-1 was postponed in order to prioritize the building and launch of RISAT-2.
