Icewind Dale is a role-playing video game series developed by Black Isle Studios.It is set in the Forgotten Realms Icewind Dale region, but takes place decades before the events described in R. A. Salvatore's books which made the area a part of Faerûn. More specifically, it takes place in the northern wastes of Faerûn (Fay-ROON), a continent of the larger world of Abeir-Toril (Ah-BEER Tor-RILL), more commonly called Toril. Icewind Dale takes place within the AD&D Forgotten Realms campaign world. In the northernmost reaches of the Forgotten Realms lies the region of icy tundra known as Icewind Dale. Though they are not the main antagonists (or maybe they are), they were always somewhat connected to the Spine of the World. Swords and Sorcery: Discover dozens of new spells and items, including new magic armor and weapons. As with its predecessor, it takes place long before the events described in R.A. Salvatore's Icewind Dale Trilogy made the area a well-known part of Faerûn. Icewind Dale 1 and 2 had the overarching plot of Auril and her followers attempting to snuff out the warmth and the (un)natural growth of the Kuldahar Tree and the Ten-Towns.
