Deep Space Industries was founded in 2012 with plans to develop asteroid mining capabilities, but has more recently focused on smallsat technologies, such as propulsion systems. The company's first technology demonstration satellite, the Arkyd-3, launched from Cape Canaveral in 2015, and deployed from the International Space Station. Deep Space Industries and Planetary Resources are the only two private companies I know of that are actively pursuing asteroid mining, but obviously there are some public entities in various nations pursuing asteroid mining as well.
